THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT (EL INVOLUCRAMIENTO DEL GOBIERNO BRITÁNICO)

Why, and to what extent, was the British government involved? ¿Por qué, y hasta qué punto, se involucró el gobierno británico?

The British government got involved because they thought that Paul McCartney had died as a result of a USSR revenge due to the U.S. Rolling Thunder military operation, carried out in Vietnam. These attacks ended the lives of a large group of high-ranking Russian and Cuban military advisors in 1965. El gobierno británico se involucró porque pensaron que Paul McCartney había muerto producto de una operación de venganza de la URSS debido a la operación militar norteamericana Rolling Thunder (1965-1968) en la guerra de Vietnam, la cual acabó con la vida de un grupo de asesores rusos y cubanos de alto rango que se hallaban en Vietnam del norte en 1965.

Two things convinced the British government that the USSR was involved in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the Beatle; 1) the complexity and cruelty of the event (Paul had been kidnapped, tortured, beheaded, and his face had been smashed with a hammer), and 2) his body had been abandoned on a desolate coast in Normandy (France). Uncovering a murder as gruesome as this one would have been, at the time, extremely traumatic and humiliating for the Western world. Dos cosas convencieron al gobierno británico que la URSS estaba involucrada en el secuestro y posterior asesinato del Beatle; 1) la complejidad y crueldad del hecho (Paul había sido secuestrado, torturado, decapitado, y su cara había sido destrozada con un martillo), y 2) su cadáver había sido abandonado en una desolada costa de Normandía (Francia). Poner al descubierto un asesinato tan espantoso como éste hubiera constituido, en aquella época, un evento extremadamente traumático y humillante para el mundo occidental.
